about

Irene Soler is the creative force behind IS. She is a highly motivated web designer and front-end developer with a proven record in graphic design, media and production. Having worked for organisations such as the BBC World Service and design agencies such as Designate, she has worked to specific briefs and tight deadlines. She is able to create concepts for smaller clients and enjoy expanding their ideas to create unique, effective and stylish websites. She has 10 years experience in this relatively young industry and an insatiable appetite to learn.

When she's able to put her computer aside, she loves taking pictures, going to the cinema, cooking, reading, discovering new music, sharing with friends a good chat, a good laugh and a glass of wine. She's also keen to learn anything her brain is willing to retain. She's passionate about travel which sometimes conflicts with her interest in eco-living. But one unfortunately wouldn't be human without contradictions!

Rob Forbes, founder of Design Within Reach, shows in this TED talk, a gallery of snapshots that inform his way of seeing the world. Charming juxtapositions, found art, urban patterns -- this slideshow will open your eyes to the world around you. A must see!

  • I'm into miniatures

    7 February 2011

I've been following Elsita's blog for a while now and really love her work - papercuts, dolls, drawings, you name it. But recently she has launched a new blog with a new project, Miniature Artist's Books, and these have really blown my mind.

  • New Year, New Version

    18 January 2011

Although I live and work in the UK it didn't seem fair not to have a Spanish version of my site. Now, with a little help from my latino friends, it's live!

  • Brighton City Guide

    10 December 2010

Finally a Brighton City Guide at Design Sponge. Best of all, brought to us by Michelle Butler who is a fantastic illustrator and super fun lady.

  • Glorious Visions

    14 November 2010

Using animation, projections and her own moving shadow, Miwa Matreyek performs a gorgeous, meditative piece about inner and outer discovery. Take a quiet 10 minutes and dive in.

  • Stuhlhockerbank

    2 November 2010

Stuhlhockerbank is a series of seating for public spaces that approach users and viewers in an extraordinary way. The special edition in white is my favourite so far.

  • Pictory

    21 October 2010

Can't say it better than this review: 'Pictory Mag's gigantic images and sumptuous design are a photographer’s dream — and a web surfer’s eye candy.' It's a simple idea, it's gorgeous and all done in semantic HTML, JavaScript and CSS.

  • Autumn Story

    20 October 2010

Relevant times. This is a piece of exceptional animation work. The video is directed by Lucinda Schreiber and Yanni Kronenberg. Music is great too.

  • The Skiff

    13 October 2010

Life has changed a lot over here in the last months. I have moved to new surroundings and started co-working at The Skiff. Still in the North Laines and so far, so chilled - glad to be part of this great community.

  • Shophouses

    11 September 2010

Peter Nitsch’s photographs condense entire lifestyles in cramped surroundings that are often crammed full to the last centimetre and nevertheless radiate an almost meditative peace. Pictures so worth seeing. If in Bangkok, SHOPHOUSES – 4 x 8 m is up until the 26th September.

  • Jane Foster

    8 September 2010

Walking around town I keep bumping onto these lovely retro / Scandinavian-inspired motifs and never checked who the artist was. By chance I found the artist's website today. Enjoy!

  • Living Architecture

    7 September 2010

One of the best ideas I've come accross recently: staying in world-class modern architecture while on holiday. I bet there's a very long waiting list to sleep in The Balancing Barn already. Looks amazing.

  • Absolut Caracas

    6 September 2010

This image speaks for itself. Although the designer did it 15 years ago it couldn't be more relevant today for a city that has been recently rated as the most dangerous place in the world. Well done Selina, this is powerful and touching.

  • Autofocus

    5 September 2010

Can't wait to have the opportunity to use this beautiful Wordpress template for a project in the near future.

    Anyone?

  • Website is live

    4 September 2010

Clients' work, idea changes, the all too familiar process of procrastination, all the excuses are over. Website is now live!
